san vicente de la barquera

San Vicente de la Barquera is a quintessentially seafaring town, as is reflected in all of its traditions, customs, and even in its most popular festivals: La Folia (popular maritime procession of the Virgin Mary held on the second Sunday after Easter) and the procession of Carmen (16th July).

Obligatory transit point in the communication between Asturias and Cantabria, its geographical position has undoubtedly helped in its development as one of the region’s most popular tourist destinations.

The town is also a charming place in its own right, thanks to its church, castle and the remains of its town walls. The town’s bridges also add to the beauty of the town whose backdrop is formed by the majestic Picos de Europa mountains, the peaks of which are usually snow-covered.

All of this makes this old fisherman’s refuge into an ideal destination to relax and enjoy.
